Peddi is an upcoming Indian Telugu-language period sports action drama film written and directed by Buchi Babu Sana. Produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru under Vriddhi Cinemas and co-produced by Ishan Saksena under IVY Entertainment, the film stars Ram Charan in the titular role alongside Janhvi Kapoor, Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyenndu, and Boman Irani. Featuring music composed by A. R. Rahman, cinematography by R. Rathnavelu, and editing by Naveen Nooli, the film is set against the backdrop of rural Andhra Pradesh during the 1980s. Initially announced as RC16, the project later received the official title Peddi and has emerged as one of the most anticipated pan-Indian releases of 2026. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on June 4, 2026.

Peddi Movie Story Plot

In a remote village of Vizianagaram district, far removed from the modern world, Peddi (Ram Charan) works as a laborer in a jaggery manufacturing company. He constantly faces economic and social discrimination from the upper-class sections of society. More than his personal struggles, Peddi is deeply troubled by the fact that his village and its people have no recognition or identity in the outside world. While working as a helper during cricket betting matches organized by wealthy locals, Peddi's exceptional talent earns him recognition as an outstanding cricketer with unmatched skills.

Meanwhile, Appalasuri (Jagapathi Babu), a respected man from Peddi's village, dedicates his life to fighting for a cause that could bring progress and recognition to their community. However, the injustice faced by Appalasuri becomes a turning point in Peddi's life. Leaving behind his promising cricket career, Peddi begins training in wrestling under Gouri Naidu (Shiva Rajkumar), a disciple of the legendary Kodi Ramamurthy Naidu. But as fate takes an unexpected turn, he is forced to abandon wrestling as well and eventually transforms himself into a professional athlete.

What kind of discrimination does Peddi face in the jaggery company? What is the cause for which Appalasuri sacrifices his life? How does Peddi's journey as a cricketer unfold? What leads to his rivalry with Rambhuji (Divyenndu) in Vizianagaram? How does Appalasuri's sacrifice change Peddi's destiny? Why does Peddi learn wrestling under Gouri Naidu, and what forces him to leave the sport? How does he rise to become a national-level athlete capable of winning a gold medal? And ultimately, how does Peddi fulfill Appalasuri's lifelong dream? The answers to these questions form the core of Peddi.

Cast and Characters

Ram Charan plays the role of Peddi Pehelwan, the central character around whom the story revolves. Janhvi Kapoor appears as Achiyamma, Peddi's love interest and one of the key emotional pillars of the narrative. Kannada superstar Shiva Rajkumar portrays Gournaidu, while Jagapathi Babu essays the role of Appalasoori. Divyenndu plays Rambujji in a significant supporting role. The ensemble cast also includes Boman Irani, Viji Chandrasekhar, Rajatava Dutta, Satya, John Vijay, Posani Krishna Murali, and Shruti Haasan in a special appearance song. The film brings together actors from multiple industries as part of its pan-India appeal.

Cast and Crew

The film is written and directed by Buchi Babu Sana, who gained recognition for directing the blockbuster Uppena. Production responsibilities are handled by Venkata Satish Kilaru, while Ishan Saksena serves as co-producer. Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman has scored the soundtrack and background music. Renowned cinematographer R. Rathnavelu handles the visuals, while Naveen Nooli is responsible for editing. Production design is overseen by Avinash Kolla, ensuring an authentic recreation of 1980s rural Andhra Pradesh. The film is presented by Mythri Movie Makers and Sukumar Writings.

Development

The concept of Peddi was developed by Buchi Babu Sana over several years following the success of Uppena. The director has revealed that nearly five years were spent refining the script and preparing the project before it finally entered production. Ram Charan's confidence in the story and vision played a significant role in moving the project forward. The film was officially announced in 2024 under the working title RC16 before being renamed Peddi in 2025.

Production

Principal photography commenced in November 2024 and continued across multiple locations including Hyderabad, Mysuru, Pune, Colombo, and Kanyakumari. Massive village sets were specially constructed to recreate the rustic atmosphere of Andhra Pradesh during the 1980s. The production team invested heavily in authentic set design, costumes, and large-scale action sequences. Reports suggest that the film was mounted on a budget of approximately ₹300 crore, making it one of the most expensive Telugu films ever produced.

Music

The soundtrack and original score for Peddi are composed by A. R. Rahman. The film's music album has generated substantial attention through songs such as Chikiri Chikiri, Rai Rai Raa Raa, Hellallallo, and Massa Massa. The tracks have garnered millions of views online and have played a major role in building anticipation for the film. Rahman's rural folk-inspired compositions combined with contemporary orchestration have become one of the film's major attractions ahead of release.

Publicity and Marketing

The marketing campaign for Peddi began with the release of Ram Charan's first-look posters, which showcased the actor in a rugged wrestler avatar featuring long hair, a thick beard, and a nose ring. The promotional materials immediately generated excitement among fans. Subsequent song releases, character posters, making videos, and promotional events further amplified the buzz surrounding the film. Large-scale promotional events held across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have attracted massive crowds and strengthened the film's pan-India visibility.

Ram Charan's Transformation for Peddi

One of the biggest talking points surrounding Peddi has been Ram Charan's remarkable physical transformation. The actor underwent extensive training to convincingly portray a wrestler and village leader. His muscular physique, rustic appearance, and body language were carefully developed to suit the demands of the character. Reports suggest that the transformation process was physically demanding and required months of dedicated preparation, making it one of the most challenging roles of his career.

Theatrical Release

Peddi movie was released worldwide on June 4, 2026. The film was initially planned for an earlier release but was later postponed to allow the makers additional time to complete post-production work and ensure the highest possible quality. The release is expected to be one of the biggest pan-India launches of the year, with simultaneous releases across multiple languages.

OTT Release

According to industry reports, Netflix has acquired the post-theatrical digital streaming rights for Peddi. While the official OTT premiere date has not yet been announced, the film is expected to arrive on the platform after completing its theatrical run. The streaming release is likely to include Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam versions to cater to audiences nationwide.

Budget

Peddi is reportedly produced on a budget of approximately ₹300 crore. The substantial investment has been allocated towards large-scale production design, extensive location shoots, action sequences, visual effects, and a star-studded cast. The budget places the film among the costliest Telugu productions ever made and reflects the makers' ambition to create a true pan-Indian cinematic spectacle.

Languages

The film is planned for release in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam languages. The makers have positioned Peddi as a pan-Indian entertainer designed to appeal to audiences across multiple regions and linguistic markets.

Why Peddi Is One of the Most Anticipated Movies of 2026

Several factors contribute to the extraordinary anticipation surrounding Peddi. The film marks the first collaboration between Ram Charan and Buchi Babu Sana, features music by A. R. Rahman, and presents the actor in an entirely new rural sports-drama setting. The combination of sports, action, emotion, and social themes, along with the film's massive scale and impressive supporting cast, has positioned Peddi as one of the biggest and most awaited Indian films of 2026.
