8 Thottakkal Story

8 Thottakkal (aka) 8 Thotakal is a Tamil movie direction by Sri Ganesh with production by Vetrivel Saravana Cinemas. The cast of 8 Thottakkal includes Vetri and Aparna Balamurali. Story In Detailed A cop Sathya (Vettri) loses his pistol (loaded with 8 bullets) to a pickpocket on a public bus. This sets in motion a chain of crimes, including a bank robbery and many murders. Sathya is given twenty four hours time to get back his gun by the inspector and when he fails he is suspended and senior cop Pandian (Nasser) takes up the case. Meanwhile Murthy (MS Bhaskar) gets hold of the gun and uses it to rob a bank. Sathya is attracted to a young journalist Meera Vasudevan (Aparna Balamurali). Who is Murthy and what is the motto of the crimes and more questions are answered in excellent screenplay.

An amazing number of youngsters just getting into their twenties are taking to filmmaking in Kollywood, bringing with them different subjects and styles of presentations. '8 Thottakkal' too is by a predominantly young team who have tried to deal with what happens when a loaded police gun with eight bullets lands in the wrong hands. Sri Ganesh has put up a list of the films that inspired him, including Mysskin's 'Anjathey' and 'Yuttham Sei' along with other foreign films by the likes of Akira Kurosawa. Verdict: Go for it if you are a fan of new age films and can withstand some patience testing sequences.

Debut director Sri Ganesh’s 8 Thottakal begins as a crime thriller, we get to see a lot of characters and their dark sides but slowly, the film turns out to be an emotional crime drama. The director, a former assistant of Myyskin is promising and his ability to handle human emotions hits us hard. The biggest strength here is Sri Ganesh’s writing and solid characterizations. If you carefully notice, 8 Thottakal is nothing but a comparative study of a young upright cop and a frustrated senior policeman, who has been put-down all through his life for being honest. To conclude, 8 Thottakal definitely has minor flaws including the impassive hero and lengthy second half but still, the film is a satisfying watch
