Balan: The Boy Story
Balan - The Boy is a pan-India Malayalam psychological mystery thriller written by Jithu Madhavan and directed by Chidambaram, best known for the blockbuster Manjummel Boys. The film starred Adhisheshan and Farzana Palathingal in the lead roles, while Muhammed Zinaan, Dolly June, Jean Paul Lal, Girish A.D., Beena Antony, and several other notable actors appeared in supporting roles. Popular actor Tovino Thomas was also seen in a pivotal role.
The film featured music composed by Sushin Shyam, cinematography by Shyju Khalid ISC, and editing by Vivek Harshan. It was jointly produced by Venkat K. Narayana and Shailaja Desai Fenn under the banners of KVN Productions and The Spian Films.
Story
Mary Luka (Farzana Palathingal), who was serving a prison sentence in a murder case, gave birth to a baby boy while in jail. After completing her sentence, she was released and began a new life with her son, Vasudev (Adhisheshan KR). To keep their identities hidden, the mother and son moved from place to place, living under assumed names and trying to stay unnoticed.
During this journey, Mary became the caretaker of an elderly woman who lived away from her family. Honoring the woman's final wish, Mary buried her body within her house after her death. However, when Vasudev learned about the burial and informed the police, Mary was arrested. At the time of her arrest, Vasudev was at school and became separated from his mother.
How did Mary Luka become entangled in a murder case? Why did she and her son choose to live a secret life under different identities? What stories did she tell Vasudev about their past? How did he stand by his mother through difficult times? What happened to him after they were separated? How did he grow up, and what efforts did he make to find her? Whom did he meet during his search? What role did Abbas (Tovino Thomas) play in Vasudev's life? And how were the mother and son eventually reunited? The answers to these questions formed the emotional core of Balan - The Boy.
Release Date
Balan - The Boy was released in theatres on June 19, 2026. The film was simultaneously released across India in Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and Kannada languages.
