Ramu Rathod is an Indian folk singer from Telangana, best known for his powerful renditions of Telugu folk music. Hailing from Gopalpur in Mahbubnagar district, he has brought traditional Banjara Lambadi traditions into the modern limelight, capturing hearts across the region with his soulful voice and dynamic presentations. Early Life & Education Ramu was born into a Banjara Lambadi tribal family in Gopalpur, Bhutpur mandal, Mahbubnagar district in Telangana, as the youngest of five children to parents Kishan Nayak and Kamalabai. He displayed a natural flair for performance from an early age often dancing to cassette songs in front of classmates, dazzling peers and teachers during school cultural programs. He completed his schooling at Vivekananda School in Bhutpur and pursued his intermediate and degree education in Mahbubnagar. Passion for Folk Art & Musical Journey From early on, Ramu developed a deep admiration for folk art and dance, often mimicking popular folk songs and immersing himself in cultural festivals. His passion was fueled by artists like Gorati Venkanna and the folk spirit of the Gaddar movement, compelling him to embrace writing and singing. His innovative approach, which blends traditional folk elements with contemporary rhythms and visuals, has helped elevate Telugu folk music to new audiences through platforms like YouTube. Viral Breakthrough & Achievements Ramu\'s career skyrocketed when his folk song “Ranu Bombayi Ki Ranu” went viral amassing hundreds of millions of views on YouTube. Produced on a modest budget, the song became a viral sensation, earning approximately ₹1 crore in earnings, all from a ₹5 lakh investment. This achievement made a powerful statement about the value and reach of folk music in the digital era. He followed up that success with other captivating folk tracks like “Sommasilli Pothunnave O Chinni Ramulamma,” “Somasilli Pothunnave Part 2,” and “Pacha Bottu Bavaayo,” helping to continue the momentum and reaffirm his cultural influence.
