Tamil Nadu CM Vijay And Sangeetha's Divorce Case Sees New Development Amid Reunion Reports
Vijay And Sangeetha's Divorce Case: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and his estranged wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, saw their divorce petition come up for hearing before the Chengalpattu Mahila Court on Monday. The court adjourned the matter to August 7, extending the legal proceedings that have drawn considerable public attention in recent months.
According to a report published by India Today on June 15, the hearing commenced at around 10:30 am. The case stems from a divorce petition filed by Sangeetha earlier this year, bringing their long-standing marriage into the public spotlight.
The petition, submitted in February, reportedly contains allegations relating to an extramarital relationship. According to the petition, Sangeetha alleged that she became aware of the relationship in 2021 and claimed that despite assurances that it would end, the relationship continued. She further alleged that the situation caused emotional distress and affected her family life.
The case was initially scheduled to be heard in April. However, after both parties were absent during the earlier hearing, the family court directed them to appear on June 15. Following Monday's proceedings, the court fixed August 7 as the next date of hearing.
Sangeetha's petition also reportedly raises concerns regarding emotional trauma and changes in her living circumstances. The divorce plea was filed under provisions of the Special Marriage Act. Neither Vijay nor Sangeetha has publicly commented on the allegations contained in the petition.
Reunion Reports Amid Vijay-Sangeetha Divorce Case
The development comes amid widespread speculation over the status of the couple's relationship. In recent weeks, several media reports have suggested that efforts may be underway to resolve differences between the two. However, no official confirmation has been issued by either side regarding any reconciliation discussions.
Rumours of marital difficulties had intensified over the past year after Sangeetha was absent from a number of Vijay's major public appearances, including political events linked to his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Her reported stay in London with the couple's children further fuelled public discussion about the state of their marriage.
Vijay and Sangeetha were married in 1999 and have two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Sasha. Their marriage has spanned nearly three decades.
The personal developments come during a significant phase in Vijay's public career. Last month, his party secured a major victory in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, following which he was sworn in as Chief Minister on May 10.
While the legal proceedings continue, attention is likely to remain focused on both the next court hearing and whether the speculation surrounding a possible reconciliation has any basis. For now, the matter remains before the court, with further clarity expected when the case returns for hearing on August 7.
