Angikaaram First Review: KJR’s Tamil Sports Courtroom Drama Gets Positive Early Response

Angikaaram First Review: Angikaaram, an upcoming Tamil sports action drama, is set to arrive in theatres on June 26, 2026. Ahead of its theatrical release, the film has received its first public reaction from film industry tracker Ramesh Bala, who shared his brief review of the movie on X on the night of June 24.

Directed by Thenpathiyan, Angikaaram is being presented as a film inspired by true events. According to the makers, the story centres on a man who decides to fight for recognition in a system shaped by politics and power. The film is positioned as a sports drama with courtroom elements and is slated for release in Tamil and Telugu.

What The First Review Says About Angikaaram

In his post, Ramesh Bala gave the film a rating of 3.5 out of 5 and described it as "a good sports/court room drama." He noted that the story follows an athlete from an underprivileged background who enters into a legal battle in order to represent India. Bala also said the film addresses the functioning of sports governing bodies and highlights the challenges faced by athletes trying to navigate the system.

The tracker further mentioned that KJR, who plays the lead role, makes a solid debut as an actor in the film. He also pointed to the physical transformation undertaken for the role. He also mentioned that Vasundhara Kashyap provides strong support in the role of the coach.

Apart from the lead cast, Bala also referred to the performances of the supporting actors, naming Rangaraj Pandey, Mansoor Ali Khan, Viji Venkatesh and Sindhoori Vishwanath among those who leave an impression. He also praised Ghibran Vaibodha's background score in his first reaction to the film.

On the writing and direction front, Bala said director Thenpathiyan uses sharp dialogues and attempts to bring attention to the larger issue of what governments should be doing to support sports and athletes in the country.

The film features KJR, Viji Venkatesh, Rangaraj Pandey, Vasundhara Kashyap, Mansoor Ali Khan, Sindhoori Vishwanath and Rama Rajendar in key roles. Angikaaram has been produced by S K Prasanth, Ajith Baskar and Arun Murugan under the banner of Swastik Visions. The technical crew includes cinematographer A. Viswanath, editor Dinesh, action choreographer Peter Hein and composer Ghibran Vaibodha.

With the film set to open in cinemas on June 26, Bala's post now stands as one of the first reactions to Angikaaram ahead of release.
