Jisshu Sengupta On Choosing Brown, Working With Karisma Kapoor & Why Kolkata Is Soul Of ZEE5 Show- EXCLUSIVE

Acclaimed actor Jisshu Sengupta is gearing up to enthrall audiences with Brown, the much-awaited crime thriller streaming on ZEE5. Featuring Karisma Kapoor in a never-seen-before avatar and helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Abhinay Deo, the series promises a gripping blend of suspense, drama and human emotions.

In an exclusive conversation with Filmibeat Assistant Editor Abhishek Ranjit, Jisshu Sengupta opened up about what convinced him to join Brown, his unique process of building characters, the way Kolkata has been portrayed in the series, and why he believes audiences are in for an unforgettable experience.

"The Moment I Heard Abhinay Deo's Name, I Was Ecstatic"

Revealing what drew him to Brown, Jisshu shared that the opportunity to collaborate with Abhinay Deo was reason enough to say yes.

"My manager got a call and then we went for a meeting with Abhinay Deo. The moment I heard it was Abhinay Deo's show, I was ecstatic because I really wanted to work with him," he said.

The actor recalled how the filmmaker narrated the story in just 15 minutes, but that was enough for him to make up his mind.

"I always judge a character by asking myself one question - if I remove my character from the story, does the story still move forward? If it does, I won't do it. But if the story stops without that character, then I know it's worth doing. That's exactly what happened with Brown."

Kolkata Like You've Never Seen Before

One of the biggest highlights of Brown is its portrayal of Kolkata. While the city has been immortalised by legendary filmmakers over the decades, Jisshu believes the series presents a completely different side of the city.

"When I watched the final series during dubbing, I was amazed. This is not the Kolkata we've seen in Bengali cinema before. The texture, the tone, the visual treatment - everything feels different."

The actor credited director Abhinay Deo and cinematographer Amogh Deshpande for bringing a fresh perspective to the city.

"They've done an incredible job. I'm happy not only because of the show or my character, but also because of how Kolkata has been showcased."

On Working With Karisma Kapoor In Brown

Sharing the screen with Karisma Kapoor was another significant aspect of Brown. He described the experience as fulfilling.

When asked about working in a morally complex and emotionally layered world alongside the actress, Jisshu offered an insightful perspective.

"I don't approach a role thinking it's challenging. Once I've accepted a character, it's my responsibility to make it work. That's what I'm being paid for."

He further explained that every role represents a fresh beginning.

"Every morning is a new day for me, and every character is a new beginning. I constantly try to push my limits little by little so that I remain alive as an actor."
