The Odyssey Reddit Review: Buzz around The Odyssey is picking up pace as the film has finally hit the theatres today (July 17), with huge buzz and high expectations. Headlined by Matt Damon, the epic fantasy action drama is among the most discussed upcoming projects, with many already counting it among the most anticipated Hollywood films of 2026.

A major reason behind this growing excitement around The Odyssey is iconic filmmaker Christopher Nolan's direction. He is returning to the silver screen three years after the huge success of Oppenheimer, and moviegoers just can't keep calm! In India too, the movie has been creating immense buzz.

Based on Homer's ancient Greek epic named the Odyssey, the film revolves around Odysseus and his journey back to Ithaca after the Trojan War as he awaits a reunion with his family. On his journey way back home, Odysseus meets a Cyclops, Polyphemus, and the son of Poseidon. This meeting proves to be a turning point, which causes further delay in his journey as he goes through years of trials.

While Matt Damon essays the titular role in The Odyssey, the Hollywood biggie also features Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, and Samantha Morton among others in important roles.

Damon and Anne Hathaway play King Odyssey (Ulysses in Latin) and Penelope, Odysseus' wife, respectively. On the other hand, Robert Pattinson has been roped in to essay the important character of Antinous, one of Penelope's prominent suitors.

THE ODYSSEY REDDIT REVIEW

With The Odyssey finally arriving in theatres, audience reactions have started pouring in across social media, especially on Reddit. Early discussions suggest that the film has largely received a positive response from Redditors.

On Reddit, a user wrote, "I just watched it in Belgium today. It's absolutely insane. Felt more like a horror movie than a historical adventure. In the best way possible, it tapped some primal fear in me, especially during the cyclops scene."

Another Redditor stated, "Went to watch the film completely blind. Knew nothing about the Trojan War. This was absolutely brilliant. I would rate this as Nolan's 2nd best movie, tied with Interstellar."

A third Reddit user said, "Just got out. I thought it was fantastic. The cinematography, the acting, the sound design. I think I still prefer the score of Interstellar, but this is definitely a 9/10 for me in terms of taking a well-known story and absolutely doing it justice."
