Welcome To The Jungle Title Track Singer Priya Patidar On Actors Turning Singers: A Trained Playback...

As more actors explore singing alongside their acting careers, the debate around opportunities for playback singers continues to gain attention. Playback singer Priya Patidar, who lent her voice to the title track of Welcome to the Jungle, believes there's nothing wrong with actors singing occasionally, but feels trained playback singers bring a level of expertise that cannot be replaced.

Sharing her thoughts, Priya said, "I don't think there's anything wrong with actors singing. Music is something everyone connects with, and if an actor is passionate about singing, doing a song once in a while brings freshness for both them and the audience. But I don't think it should become the norm unless they're trained singers. A composer may find one song that perfectly suits an actor's voice, but a trained playback singer will always bring a level of skill and versatility that's hard to match. So occasionally, it's great, but not for every song."

The singer, who has worked hard to establish herself in Bollywood, believes the real challenge for emerging artists lies elsewhere. "Most of the time when actors sing, it's usually their own version of a song that has already been recorded by a playback singer, and I think that's absolutely fine. The bigger challenge is that many composers and producers prefer established singers because they already have a huge fan base. That naturally helps a song get more reach. But because of that, many talented new singers don't get opportunities. I've experienced this myself. I've recorded songs that everyone appreciated, but later I was replaced simply because they wanted a bigger name. I think that's a much bigger issue than actors singing occasionally."

Priya also stressed that a song's success depends on teamwork rather than just fame. "You can't say a song works only because of the singer or only because of the actor. If the singer has sung beautifully but the actor doesn't perform well, the emotion won't come across. Similarly, if the actor performs brilliantly but the singing isn't convincing, the song won't have the same impact. A big star may give a song more initial reach, but star power alone doesn't guarantee success. Today's audience connects with good music, good singing, and good performance. In the end, a song truly works when every element comes together. It's always a team effort."

Through her own journey in the industry, Priya Patidar continues to advocate for fresh talent while acknowledging the evolving nature of entertainment. Her message is clear opportunities should be based on merit, while good music will always remain the biggest star.
