Welcome To The Jungle Budget: Director Ahmed Khan Reveals If Akshay Kumar's Film Is Really Made For ₹250 Crore

Ahmed Khan has addressed one of the biggest talking points around Welcome To The Jungle: its reported budget. The Akshay Kumar-led comedy, which opened in cinemas on Friday, was widely being discussed as a Rs 250 crore film. The director has now said that the actual cost is far lower, placing the film’s total spend at around Rs 115 crore to Rs 125 crore.

Ahmed Khan discussing Welcome To The Jungle budget details

The clarification matters because budget talk often shapes box office perception. A film that appears expensive is judged against a much higher recovery mark. In the case of Welcome To The Jungle, Ahmed’s comments suggest that the film is not carrying the financial pressure that a Rs 250 crore tag would have created.

Ahmed Khan says Welcome To The Jungle is not a Rs 250 crore film

Speaking to Times Now, Ahmed Khan pushed back against the idea that he makes films at inflated costs. He said, “People perceive me as a very costly director. I want to clarify that I am not an expensive director at all. I am a director who works within the budget set by producers. Rs. 200 crore, Rs. 250 crore, films are not made at such costs.”

The director said the film’s expenses, including cast, action, songs and other production requirements, remained within a controlled range. According to him, Welcome To The Jungle “has not exceeded Rs. 115 crore to Rs. 120 crore, or perhaps Rs. 125 crore.” He also said that even with interest included, the film had not gone beyond its planned budget.

Ahmed further claimed that the makers have already recovered the cost through non-theatrical and overseas deals. “And that has been recovered through digital, satellite, music, and overseas rights. The film is balanced. Now, whatever the film earns is profit. They are entirely benefiting from it,” he said.

Why the budget clarification changes the box office picture

For a Hindi film with a large ensemble, outdoor scale, songs and action, a Rs 250 crore budget would have required a very strong theatrical run to be seen as a clean success. A Rs 115 crore to Rs 125 crore cost, however, changes the trade reading. It lowers the break-even pressure and makes ancillary rights far more important in the recovery calculation.

Welcome To The Jungle has collected Rs 72.25 crore net in India in four days, including Thursday paid previews. Its worldwide gross stands at Rs 106 crore. On paper, those numbers look much healthier if the film’s cost is closer to Ahmed’s stated figure rather than the larger reported amount.

The film still needs to hold well after its opening phase. Big comedy franchises often depend on family audiences and repeat weekend footfall. Weekday trends will show whether the initial curiosity around the Akshay Kumar starrer can convert into sustained theatrical business.

At the same time, theatrical earnings are only one part of the financial equation for mainstream Hindi releases. Digital streaming rights, satellite rights, music revenue and overseas distribution can significantly reduce risk before a film completes its domestic run. Ahmed’s statement indicates that these revenue streams have already helped the producers cover the film’s cost.

Akshay Kumar’s ensemble comedy carries franchise expectations

Welcome To The Jungle arrives with strong brand recall because it belongs to the Welcome franchise. The earlier films built their popularity on slapstick humour, eccentric characters and ensemble-driven comedy. That legacy brings visibility, but it also raises expectations from audiences who associate the franchise with broad, repeat-friendly entertainment.

Akshay Kumar’s presence adds another layer to the conversation. His recent box office journey has been closely tracked, with every new release being judged against both opening numbers and long-term hold. For an ensemble comedy, the performance does not rest on one actor alone, but Akshay remains the film’s biggest recall value for many viewers.

Ahmed Khan’s clarification also reflects a wider industry concern. Hindi films are often labelled with massive budgets before or during release, sometimes without confirmed figures. These numbers then influence public debate, social media reactions and early verdicts. A film can be called underwhelming simply because it is believed to have cost far more than it actually did.

Budget transparency is rarely complete in Bollywood because production costs, talent fees, publicity spends and recovery models vary from project to project. Some films include promotion and advertising in the overall cost, while others discuss only the production budget. This makes direct comparisons difficult unless the makers themselves provide a clear figure.

In this case, Ahmed has put a specific range on record. His statement suggests that Welcome To The Jungle was planned as a controlled big-scale entertainer, not as a Rs 250 crore gamble. That distinction is important for how its box office performance will be read over the next few days.

The film’s current numbers give it a workable base, especially if the budget is around Rs 125 crore and pre-release recoveries are already in place. The next test will be its weekday stability and second weekend jump. For now, Ahmed Khan’s comments have shifted the conversation from inflated budget rumours to the film’s actual commercial prospects.
