The talented actor also mentioned that he believes the script always comes before everything else.
Here are excerpts from the interview
Q: Your journey from creating digital content to becoming a recognised OTT actor has been remarkable. Looking back, what has been the biggest shift in your mindset as a performer?
Kapil Kanpuriya: The biggest shift has been learning to surrender to the character instead of trying to entertain the audience. As a content creator, I was always thinking about what would make people laugh, what would go viral, or what would keep them engaged. But as an actor, it's not about me anymore-it's about the story and the character. I had to unlearn a lot of habits and become more patient. Theatre also played a huge role in shaping that mindset. Today, I enjoy the process much more than chasing instant validation, and I think that's the biggest difference.
Q: Thukra Ke Mera Pyaar introduced audiences to a different side of your acting. What drew you to this project in the first place?
Kapil Kanpuriya: What attracted me the most was that it gave me an opportunity to break people's perception of me. Most audiences knew me for comedy and relatable family content, but this role was completely unexpected. When I read the script, I felt this character had so many layers and there was a lot to explore as an actor. It wasn't just about playing a negative role; it was about portraying a human being with complex emotions. I knew it would be challenging, and that's exactly why I wanted to do it.
Q: Your character reportedly takes a much darker turn in Season 2. How did you prepare for this "devil avatar"?
Kapil Kanpuriya: For me, the biggest challenge wasn't looking dangerous-it was making the character feel real. I never wanted him to behave like a typical villain. Every person believes they're justified in what they're doing, and I approached the role from that perspective. I focused on understanding his emotional journey, his anger, his pain, and his motivations. When you understand why a character behaves the way he does, the performance automatically becomes more believable. I also paid attention to body language, silence, and expressions because sometimes they say much more than dialogues.
Q: Was there a particular scene in Season 2 that challenged you emotionally or physically?
Kapil Kanpuriya: Without giving away any spoilers, there are a few intense sequences in Season 2 that really pushed me, both emotionally and physically. Some scenes demanded a very high emotional graph, while others were physically exhausting because of the action and long shooting hours. Those are the days that really test you as an actor, but they're also the most satisfying because you know you're growing with every difficult scene.
Q: You're also playing an honest and principled politician in Dil Cheer Ke Dekh. How different is that role?
Kapil Kanpuriya: They're completely opposite characters, and that's what excites me the most. In Thukra Ke Mera Pyaar, the character is driven by darkness, power, and intense emotions. In Dil Cheer Ke Dekh, the politician believes in honesty, values, and doing the right thing even when it's difficult. As an actor, switching between two completely different mindsets is challenging but also incredibly rewarding. It reminds me why I chose acting in the first place.
Q: Do you consciously seek different roles, or is the script the deciding factor?
Kapil Kanpuriya: For me, the script always comes first. If the writing is strong and the character has depth, I'm interested. Of course, I enjoy doing roles that surprise the audience because I don't want to get stuck in one image. Every project should allow me to discover something new about myself as an actor. That's the kind of journey I want to build over the years.
Q: Has there been a moment when you truly felt you had transitioned from content creator to actor?
Kapil Kanpuriya: I don't think there's one single moment where you suddenly feel you've arrived. It's a continuous journey. But yes, when people from the industry started discussing my performances instead of my follower count, and when audiences accepted me in serious roles, it definitely felt like I was moving in the right direction. At the same time, I still consider myself a student because there's so much more I want to learn and achieve.
Q: Is there a genre or character type that you haven't explored yet but would love to take on in the future?
Kapil Kanpuriya: I'd love to explore psychological thrillers and intense character-driven dramas. I've always admired actors like Manoj Bajpayee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Pankaj Tripathi because they completely disappear into their characters. I also want to play ordinary people with extraordinary emotional journeys because those stories stay with audiences for a long time. Ultimately, I'm looking for roles that challenge me rather than comfort me.
Q: What can fans expect from you over the next year?
Kapil Kanpuriya: I just want to keep surprising people. Whether it's Thukra Ke Mera Pyaar Season 2, Dil Cheer Ke Dekh, or the projects lined up next, my goal is that every character should feel different from the previous one. I'm grateful that I'm getting opportunities to explore diverse roles, and that's the most exciting part of this phase. I hope audiences continue to support me the way they always have because their love has been the biggest motivation throughout this journey.
We extend our best wishes to Kapil and hope he continues to deliver solid performances and take the audience on a roller coaster ride with his projects.
