Kala Hiran Controversy Escalates: Producer Amit Jani Issues Notice to Govind Namdev, Claims Rs 50 Lakh - DEETS

The dispute around Kala Hiran has moved from public statements to a legal warning. Producer Amit Jani has said he has sent a legal notice to actor Govind Namdev after the veteran performer distanced himself from the film and questioned the way its teaser presented the project.

Jani has demanded a public apology from Namdev within seven days and Rs 50 lakh as compensation to the production house. The producer also warned of further legal action if the demand is not met. Namdev had earlier said he was shocked after watching the teaser and claimed the film did not look like what he had agreed to shoot.

Kala Hiran row: What Amit Jani has said

Amit Jani announced the legal notice through a post on X on June 15, 2026. He wrote in Hindi that a legal notice had been given to Govind Namdev, asking him to issue a public apology within seven days and pay Rs 50 lakh to the production house, failing which legal action would follow.

The statement escalates an already sensitive controversy around Kala Hiran, a film said to be inspired by the 1998 blackbuck poaching case linked to Salman Khan. The makers have not used Salman’s real name in the film, but the teaser has drawn attention because of a character named Ayaan Khan, whose appearance has led many viewers to draw comparisons with the actor.

Govind Namdev’s presence in the teaser became a talking point because he has worked with Salman Khan in the past, including in the 2009 film Wanted. His comments after the teaser’s release added weight to the debate, as he suggested that the final promotional material did not reflect the project he believed he had joined.

Why Govind Namdev distanced himself from the film

Namdev had said in an interview that he felt shaken after seeing the teaser of Kala Hiran. According to him, the film appeared different from what he had shot for. His remarks indicated concern over how the project had been shaped and promoted after filming.

The actor’s comments came at a time when the teaser was already under scrutiny online. Viewers questioned whether the film was using a fictional name while still evoking Salman Khan’s identity and legal history. The makers, however, have maintained that the characters are fictional, even as the film’s subject appears to draw from a widely known real-life case.

For actors, such disputes can become complicated when a film’s marketing creates a perception they did not expect. Public distancing by a cast member can affect a film’s credibility, especially before release. For producers, such remarks can be seen as damaging if they believe an actor’s comments hurt the film’s reputation or business prospects.

Sonu Mishra’s exit added to the controversy

The Kala Hiran debate had widened before the legal notice to Namdev. Actor Sonu Mishra claimed that he was earlier attached to the film and was meant to play the character resembling Salman Khan. He said he left the project after shooting for two days because he was uncomfortable with the direction in which it was heading.

Sonu said, “I left because I had not signed the agreement. We shot for two days, and I asked them for the agreement and script because they were making a one-sided narrative story against a superstar. So, they understood I was not going to fall into their trap. I asked for the agreement to know what all clauses are there in it.”

He further claimed that he was later shown details that troubled him. “After a long time, they showed me things, and it was revealed that I had to speak negatively against the star in the media. So, all these things were against my ethics,” he added.

These allegations have not only kept the film in the news but also raised questions about consent, contracts and how actors are briefed about projects based on sensitive real-life controversies. In films inspired by legal cases or public figures, the gap between fiction and recognisable resemblance often becomes a source of dispute.

Why the blackbuck case remains a sensitive subject

The 1998 blackbuck poaching case is one of the most discussed legal matters involving Salman Khan. It dates back to the shooting schedule of Hum Saath-Saath Hain in Rajasthan. Over the years, the case has seen multiple court proceedings and sustained public attention, making it a sensitive subject for any screen adaptation.

That history explains why Kala Hiran has faced scrutiny even before release. A film may use fictional names and altered characters, but audiences often judge intent through visual cues, dialogue, marketing and context. When a teaser appears to resemble a living public figure, the discussion quickly moves beyond cinema into questions of portrayal and fairness.

As of June 15, 2026, Govind Namdev had not publicly responded to Amit Jani’s latest legal notice. The next turn in the controversy will depend on whether the actor issues a clarification, whether the makers pursue formal action, and how the team handles the film’s promotion after the backlash.

For now, Kala Hiran remains in the spotlight for reasons beyond its release plans. The legal notice has made the dispute sharper, while the questions around the teaser, actor exits and fictionalised portrayal continue to shape public conversation around the film.
