Box Office: PS-2 [Hindi] Does Fair Business, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan Enters 100 Crore Club

Box Office Ponniyin Selvan 2 Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan

Box Office Update: It was an overall low weekend for the business of Hindi films in theatres as less than 20 crores came in. There is a per day capacity of at least 50 crores available which means over the weekend, there is a potential of business worth 150 crores.

Hence, when just 20 crores odd come in during this duration, it indicates average occupancy of just a little over 10%, which pretty much tells the state of theatrical run in the current times.

There were two new releases this week, the Hindi dubbed version of Ponniyin Selvan 2 and an original Bollywood release Bad Boy. Let's talk about PS-2 [Hindi] first. The film comes in the wake of PS-1 which arrived just a little over 6 months back, hence turning out to be one of the fastest twin releases that have arrived in theatres.

There are only a couple of times when two parts have come so close to each other. First it was Ram Gopal Varma's Rakht Charitra and later Anurag Kashyap's Gangs of Wasseypur. Now it's Mani Ratnam's PS 1 & 2.

The common factor amongst all these films is that they were shot over a long period of time in a common schedule and then were edited as two films to release one after another. Unlike Brahmastra which has seen the first part already and would now be seeing the second part after a few years, or Attack where the second part was announced after the first but then there is no news about that ever since, PS-2 was always designed to arrive rather quickly. In comparison, Baahubali too was in two parts but were set apart by two years.

PONNIYIN SELVAN 2 (HINDI) DID FAIR BUSINESS IN FIRST WEEKEND

Coming to PS-2 box office performance, the film has been doing good business in the original Tamil version but the Hindi version has been just about fair with only 8 crores* coming in. The first part had collected 7.60 crores in its opening weekend so in comparison, the second part hasn't covered much of a distance ahead of that.

Now one waits to see where does the lifetime head for the multi-starrer since at the bare minimum the film would be aiming to go past 20 crores lifetime at least. To set things in perspective, the first part had netted 24.50 crores.

As for Bad Boy, the collections are nowhere close to being good as the weekend has fallen short of the 1 crore mark. The film saw a very meager release with just a show or two at some theatres and there too the occupancy was really low.

On Sunday, the situation was a little better with close to 50% occupancy in certain shows but since the release has been so sparse, the overall numbers haven't turned out to be anything notable. Eventually, this Rajkumar Santoshi film with debutants Namashi Chakraborty & Amrin Qureshi in the lead will be a one-week show.

SALMAN KHAN'S KISI KA BHAI KISI KI JAAN ENTERS 100 CRORE CLUB

Meanwhile, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan had a very low second weekend as only 10 crores more came in. The film's opening day collections were 15.81 crores so that pretty much explains how the film has been doing post-Eid weekend where just Saturday and Sunday had managed to net over 25 crores.

The Salman Khan starrer had started sliding from Tuesday onwards and ever since then it hasn't managed to go past the 5 crores mark. This again shows how audiences have become really selective since during pre-pandemic, the results would have been better.

The same is the case with Bholaa as well which deserved to enter the 100 Crore Club but hasn't been able to cover the distance. It had a rather low third week and now the fourth week has been quite slow too with just a few shows at which the film is running. The film is inching towards 90 crores lifetime and while it will eventually reach there, that would be it in the final run.

*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
