Box Office: Salman’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan Arrives This Friday, Expected To Elevate Bollywood’s Fortunes

More than 100 days into the New Year and the only blockbuster that Bollywood has seen is Pathaan. Apart from it there is Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar which has hit a big century, which is some respite at least for the theatrical business. Then there is Bholaa which won't enter the 100 crore club but at least come close to that with a 90 crores lifetime haul. Apart from this the only other film which has been profitable for the producers as far as theatrical business is concerned is Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway. Though the box office business has just about managed to go past the 20 crores mark, it's a success from the ROI perspective.
However, what the industry needs is a real big grosser at theatres and what better way to meet this demand than to have Salman Khan's Eid release Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan arriving huge this Friday. The film has everything going for it. First and foremost it's Salman Khan's first theatrical release as a leading man more than three years after Dabangg (2019). His Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai arrived straight on OTT with just a token theatrical release. Then in Antim: The Final Truth had him in a special appearance. As for Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan and South release Godfather with Chiranjeevi, he just had a cameo. Hence, for those thirsting to see Salman Khan in a larger-than-life avatar on the big screen, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ka Jaan is turning out to be a welcome gift.
Secondly, it's an Eid release and that's Salman Khan's own territory. Over the years he has delivered countless blockbusters on this festival and that makes it a rock-solid weekend in the making for this action drama masala affair. Thirdly, there is no competition from past or present as the holdover releases won't be challenging the film while there is no other movie arriving alongside. This isn't all as the next major Bollywood release Adipurush (16th June) is almost two months away which means if KKBKKJ is accepted well then the sky is the limit for the biggie.
All of this makes the movie one of the most important ever for Bollywood. The first quarter of the year was saved by Pathaan which went on to enter the 500 Crore Club and now from Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, the first major expectation would be to enter the 200 Crore Club at least. Once that happens, one can raise the stakes for the film and start pegging bigger numbers in weeks to follow. What Bollywood needs is a bonafide success that revives theatrical business and Salman Khan is the man who is being trusted to do the job.
