Box Office - Fast X And The Kerala Story Keep The Cheers Coming At Theatres

Box Office Update Fast X The Kerala Story

Box Office Update: Is it the sign of the box office finally reviving before the big summer releases start hitting the screens? Well, it may be too early to say as of now but then at least as of this moment things are better than how things were during the last few months when the only good century was scored by Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar while Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan just about made it there before tapering off.

Currently, there are two films which are doing big business. While Bollywood's The Kerala Story has been a bonafide all-time blockbuster, the newest film to join the party is Hollywood's Fast X which is a hit as well. The former has entered the 200 Crore Club as you read this while the latter will get into the 100 Crore Club in the coming weekend.

FAST X HAD A SURPRISINGLY GOOD WEEKEND

Let's talk about the new release Fast X first. Released on Thursday, the film took a winning start by bringing in 12 crores. Since the opening itself was so good, it wouldn't have been surprising if the collections would have remained flat on Friday or even dipped a little.

However, what happened was on the contrary as the collections instead increased to 13 crores. Later, on Saturday there was a good jump evidenced with 17 crores coming in and then on Sunday the numbers rose further to 19 crores.

The trend so far is really good for the film which has collected 61 crores already in its extended four-day weekend. That would ensure the first week of over 80 crores at least and then the 100 crores mark would be reached at ease by Sunday. In the times when even Marvel films are struggling to just about go past the 50 crores mark in India, it's indeed wonderful to see the newest instalment from the Fast and the Furious franchise to be heading for that century mark.

FANTASTIC THIRD WEEKEND FOR THE KERALA STORY

Meanwhile, The Kerala Story had a fantastic third weekend as well with a drop of just around 50% when compared to the second weekend. In fact, the drop from the first weekend is even lesser, as over 26 crores came in. In the times when majority of big Bollywood films too are struggling to make as much in their first weekend, here comes a small-budget film like this which goes on to not just sustain itself excellently despite the roaring business of Fast X but promises to keep running for many more weeks as well.

The Adah Sharma starrer reached 198 crores* by close of the third weekend and has now brought in more moolah already on the third Monday to enter the 200 Crore Club. This makes it only the second movie after Pathaan to have got into that zone because even though there have been two more Bollywood centuries this year (Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan), none could cross 150 crores and here the Vipul Shah production has done that, and more.

As for the holdover release from last week, IB 71, it has been sandwiched between the two aforementioned films due to which the collections are being heavily impacted. It's a good film by Vidyut Jammwal and director Sankalp but then audience attention has been divided by the other films in the running. As a result, the second weekend could see only 3 crores more coming in which has pushed the numbers to a little over 14 crores. The good part is that the film is still in the running when it could easily have folded up after the first week itself, and that gives hopes that eventually it would get into that 18-20 crores lifetime zone.

*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
