Mann Sundar Actress Manpreet Kaur Saluja Recalls Losing Her First Big Break In Aashram At 17
Before she became a known face on television with Mann Sundar, Manpreet Kaur Saluja experienced both the thrill of success and the pain of rejection at just 17. Fresh after winning the Miss Ayodhya pageant, she landed her very first audition for Prakash Jha's Aashram and got selected. But the dream was short lived when her father refused to let her take up the role. The actress now looks back at that moment as her first real heartbreak and the turning point that made her sure about her acting journey.

Manpreet remembers that period with complete clarity. "I still remember that phase so clearly. I had just won the title of Miss Ayodhya, and everything felt like it was falling into place. A few days later, auditions for Ashram were happening in Ayodhya, and I decided to give it a shot without any expectations."
She had no training and no camera experience before that day. "I had zero experience. I had never faced a camera, never taken an acting workshop, nothing. It was literally my first audition ever. And when I got selected, that too for a role with dialogues, it felt unreal." For a newcomer, the feeling was overwhelming. "For any actor, getting selected in the very first audition is a huge thing, and for me, it felt like a dream come true. I was genuinely on cloud nine."
Things moved quickly after her selection. "They had even started preparing me with workshops, and I had begun to believe that maybe this is where I belong. But just a few days into it, my father said no. He was completely against me entering this field."
The refusal hit her hard because it meant opposing someone she respected deeply. "I remember that day so clearly. It was probably the first time in my life that I went against him. I was heartbroken. I did not talk to him for an entire day, which had never happened before. I love my father more than anything. I respect him deeply, I look up to him, and in many ways, he is my biggest role model."
The day was emotional for both of them. "But that day was difficult for both of us. He kept trying to make me eat, he kept saying, I am sorry, but I cannot let you do this. I could see it was not easy for him either." The moment that broke her anger was a simple act of care. "And when he finally sat down and fed me with his own hands, I just could not hold on to that anger anymore."
Though she reconciled with her father, the impact of losing the role stayed with her. "I spoke to him again, but somewhere, that moment stayed with me. It was my first heartbreak. Not just because I lost that opportunity, but because it was the first time I felt torn between my dream and someone I love the most."
Today, Manpreet believes that setback gave her clarity. "But I think that moment also shaped me. It made me realise how much I want this, and maybe that is why I am here today, still chasing it."
From that heartbreak at 17 to leading a daily show like Mann Sundar, Manpreet Kaur Saluja's story is one of persistence. The role she lost became the reason she fought harder for the career she has now.
