AICWA Demands Action Against Shilpa Shinde Over False Sexual Harassment Case, Approaches CM Devendra Fadnavis
Television actor Shilpa Shinde is facing fresh criticism after admitting that a sexual harassment complaint against Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain producer Sanjay Kohli was false. The All Indian Cine Workers Association has now denounced the admission, and has appealed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to examine the case and initiate strict legal steps if required.

In an Instagram statement issued on Friday, the association called Shilpa Shinde's confession a matter of serious "concern" for the film and television sectors. The organisation said the admission raises questions about accountability in harassment cases and asked the state government to ensure that both the accused and genuine complainants are properly protected by law.
Impact of Shilpa Shinde false sexual harassment allegations highlighted by AICWA
The association warned of the wider damage that such conduct can create within the industry. Its statement said, "A false sexual harassment allegation can cause irreparable damage to a person's reputation, family, children, career, and mental well-being. Such accusations can permanently tarnish an individual's image and have devastating consequences not only for the accused but also for their family members and loved ones."
Expanding on this concern, the association added that deliberate misuse of harassment complaints affects more than one case. It said, "The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) believes that if a person knowingly makes false allegations, it not only harms the accused but also undermines the credibility of genuine victims who come forward seeking justice. Such incidents can create doubt around legitimate complaints and make it more difficult for real survivors of harassment within the Bollywood film industry to be heard and believed."
AICWA stance on Shilpa Shinde false sexual harassment allegations and real victims
AICWA underlined that Shilpa Shinde's statement should not weaken public trust in real accounts of abuse. The association noted that thousands of women working in film and television report genuine exploitation and harassment. It stressed they must receive respect, fair hearings and legal support, and that the behaviour of one person should not cast suspicion on others’ testimonies.
The body further clarified that the focus should stay on a balanced approach. It said the industry must treat every complaint seriously, while also checking if any allegation is knowingly fabricated. According to the association, this balance is essential so that sincere survivors feel safe speaking out, and those wrongly accused are shielded from unjust damage.
Call for inquiry into Shilpa Shinde false sexual harassment allegations
The association ended its statement with a formal appeal to the state leadership. It said, "The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) urges the Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, to ensure a fair and thorough examination of this matter. If it is established that false allegations were knowingly made, strict action should be taken in accordance with the law. Accountability is essential to protect both innocent individuals from false accusations and genuine victims seeking justice. Truth, fairness, and justice must prevail. False allegations and genuine harassment are both serious matters, and the law must deal with each appropriately."
The current dispute links back to Shilpa Shinde's earlier fallout with Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain. In 2016, Shilpa Shinde left the sitcom after disagreements with the makers, who called the actor "unprofessional". Shilpa Shinde then claimed non-payment of dues, harassment and a hostile work atmosphere on set, which later grew into a legal and public confrontation.
In 2017, Shilpa Shinde accused producer Sanjay Kohli of sexual harassment, though the case ended with a settlement. During a recent podcast with comedians Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa, Shilpa Shinde acknowledged that the sexual harassment complaint against Sanjay Kohli was false, saying the step was taken when Shilpa Shinde felt "cornered" over unpaid dues; Shilpa Shinde also confirmed receiving the pending payments after the settlement.
