Who Is Swagatha S Krishnan? Singer Alleges Sexual Abuse By Tamil Composer, Says She Plans Legal Action
Swagatha Alleges Sexual Abuse By Tamil Composer: Playback singer Swagatha S Krishnan, known to many Tamil music listeners for songs such as Yeno Pennae from Ispade Rajavum Irudhaya Raniyum and Kadhal Kanmani from Bachelor, has recently come into public discussion after speaking about alleged sexual abuse by a Tamil music composer.
According to a report by India Today published on April 29, the singer opened up about her experience during an interview with the YouTube channel Sivasankari Talks. In the conversation, Swagatha described the accused person as the "Epstein of Madras." However, she did not publicly name the composer during the interview.
She alleged that the abuse took place inside the composer's studio, a place she once considered safe and professionally important. Swagatha claimed the room was soundproof, locked, and equipped with CCTV cameras, including hidden ones. She further alleged that recordings from the space were later used to intimidate and threaten her.
As reported by India Today, Swagatha said the incident was not an isolated one and claimed that other women had also gone through similar experiences. She alleged that the man would first build trust by presenting himself as a mentor, then create emotional and financial dependence before taking control.
She also claimed that he often targeted independent women, borrowed money, delayed repayment, and used manipulation as a form of control. In the interview, she said several women later contacted her with similar stories. She further alleged that secretly recording women, and even children visiting the studio, had become a disturbing pattern.
Swagatha Opens Up About Trauma, Therapy and Legal Action
Speaking about the emotional aftermath, Swagatha said the experience deeply affected her mental health. She alleged that she was shamed, falsely accused of theft, and spoken about negatively within the industry. She also claimed that members of the accused person's family contributed to discrediting her.
The singer said she isolated herself for long periods and sought therapy to cope with the trauma. She also underwent skin treatments, saying she struggled with the physical memory of the abuse. According to the interview, her sister played an important role in helping her through that period.
Swagatha revealed that she had consulted lawyers and senior officials earlier but did not file a formal complaint at the time because of fear and lack of support. She now says she intends to pursue legal action, stating that her aim is not revenge, but to prevent similar harm to others.
Apart from playback singing, Swagatha S Krishnan describes herself on Instagram as a "Kirtan Artist/Playback Singer/Actor/Artisan" and the Founder-Director of World of Taarabai, an eco-friendly and sustainable clothing brand based in Rishikesh that focuses on organic, plant-based fabrics and hand-printed textiles made with natural dyes. Her move from Chennai to Rishikesh, she said, was closely linked to the difficult chapter she experienced in the Tamil music industry.
