Karuppu Box Office Day 1 (Evening Trend): Suriya's Film Holds Fort But Will Mint Less Than Half Of Retro

Karuppu Box Office Collection Day 1 (Evening Trend): Karuppu has reached cinemas, giving Suriya the first major theatrical release of 2026. The action drama presents Suriya in a double role, which becomes the 45th lead film for the actor. Early worldwide box-office tracking has begun, helped by strong anticipation around the project and steady coverage across entertainment media. Backed by Dream Warrior Pictures, Karuppu is directed by RJ Balaji, who also appears on screen. Publicity has highlighted raw action sequences and heavy emotional moments through posters and trailers. This campaign has drawn audiences across India, especially viewers who follow Tamil cinema and monitor Suriya's big releases closely.

Karuppu reunites Suriya and Trisha Krishnan after more than twenty years, adding to the film's pull. The pair previously acted together in Mounam Pesiyadhe, Aayutha Ezhuthu and Aaru during the early 2000s. These films still have loyal followers, which increases curiosity about the new collaboration. The cast also includes Indrans, Natty Subramaniam, Swasika, Sshivada, Supreeth Reddy and Yogi Babu. The path to release for Karuppu has not been smooth. Shows planned on 14 May were cancelled because of financial issues, leaving fans confused. Screenings started after that setback, and audience interest has remained strong. The combination of a star-heavy cast, reports about delays, and constant media attention continues to support Karuppu's ongoing box-office performance.

Karuppu Evening Occupancy Day 1

According to a report published in Sacnilk, Karuppu recorded an occupancy of 53.31% during evening shows today (day 1/ first Friday) for the Tamil version

To note, Karuppu has managed to mint Rs 7.98cr until 8pm on day 1. This overall collection includes Rs 6.82cr for Tamil version and Rs 1.16cr for Telugu version. Interestingly, as Karuppu has been facing comparisons with Retro, it will fail to beat the latter in Tamil version with a huge gap. After all, Retro had minted Rs 17.25cr for Tamil version on the opening day.

Meanwhile, talking about Karuppu, director RJ Balaji stated, "I don't want to overpromise and underdeliver. It is a very entertaining, mass masala film with Suriya sir we always love. Ayan, Singam... all the films that we have seen of him... so that is the Suriya sir I wanted to show in this film. The film is made for people of Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra... It is not made for people on social media. It is made for those who celebrate cinema in the darkness of cinema halls, not for those who do postmortems on social media. Not for them. This is for all of us to celebrate".
