Kara Box Office Collection Day 8: Dhanush's Film Crosses ₹30 Cr India Net After Steady First Week
Kara Box Office Collection: Kara, starring Dhanush in the lead role, continued its theatrical run into its second week with moderate collections at the Indian box office. The Tamil heist drama, directed by Vignesh Raja, completed eight days in cinemas on Thursday, May 7, and has now entered Day 9 on Friday, May 8.

Released in theatres on April 30, 2026, the film has been maintaining a steady run despite the weekday slowdown after its opening weekend. According to trade tracking platform Sacnilk, Kara earned an estimated ₹1.53 crore India net on Day 8 from around 3,300 shows across languages. With this, the film's total India net collection has reached approximately ₹30.26 crore.
The report also states that the film's India gross collection currently stands at ₹34.89 crore. Overseas, Kara has reportedly collected ₹10.15 crore gross so far, taking its worldwide gross total to around ₹45.04 crore after eight days in theatres.
On Thursday, the Tamil version contributed the majority of the collections with an estimated ₹1.18 crore net, while the Telugu dubbed version added around ₹35 lakh. Occupancy figures remained in the mid-teen range during the day, reflecting a relatively stable hold during the working week.
The film opened with ₹6.20 crore net on its first day before collections increased to ₹6.95 crore on Friday. Collections remained above ₹5 crore during the weekend before slowing down from Monday onwards. Since then, the film has largely stayed in the ₹1.5 crore to ₹2 crore range on weekdays.
Kara: Story, Cast, and Key Crew
Set in Ramanathapuram in 1991, Kara unfolds against the backdrop of the Gulf War period and follows Karasaami, a man forced to revisit unresolved parts of his past over the course of 16 days. The story explores how unexpected events alter his life while he attempts to protect the people around him.
Apart from Dhanush, the cast includes Mamitha Baiju, K. S. Ravikumar, Karunas, Jayaram, Prithvi Pandiarajan, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Sreeja Ravi in key roles.
The project has been produced by Dr. Ishari K. Ganesh under Vels Film International in association with Think Studios. Music for the film has been composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, while cinematography and editing have been handled by Theni Eswar and Sreejith Sarang respectively.
With the film having entered Day 9 in theatres on Friday, attention now turns to how Kara performs over its second weekend, particularly whether the collections witness an upward trend on Saturday and Sunday.
