Kara Box Office Collection Day 1: Dhanush's Film Opens With ₹5.75 Cr In India, Crosses ₹9 Cr Worldwide
Kara Box Office Collection: The Tamil film Kara, starring Dhanush in the lead, began its theatrical run on April 30, 2026, and has registered its first-day box office numbers. Directed by Vignesh Raja, the heist action thriller opened across multiple centres on its first day.

According to early estimates from trade tracking platform Sacnilk, Kara collected ₹5.75 crore net in India on Day 1 (Thursday) across 4,172 shows nationwide, recording an overall occupancy of around 24.8%.
A closer look at the regional performance indicates that the Tamil version contributed the bulk of the revenue. It earned ₹4.65 crore with an occupancy rate of 27% from 2,866 shows. Meanwhile, the Telugu version added ₹1.10 crore, with a comparatively lower occupancy of 20% across 1,306 shows. The combined total brings the film's India gross to approximately ₹6.64 crore.
In overseas markets, Kara has recorded ₹2.50 crore gross. This pushes the film's worldwide gross collection to ₹9.14 crore after its first day in theatres.
Kara Cast, Premise and Crew
The film features Mamitha Baiju alongside Dhanush, with a supporting cast that includes K. S. Ravikumar, Karunas, Jayaram, Prithvi Pandiarajan, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Sreeja Ravi in key roles.
Set in Ramanathapuram in 1991, the narrative unfolds over a span of 16 days against the backdrop of global tensions linked to the Iraq-United States conflict. The story follows Karasaami, a man compelled to revisit his past while navigating a series of developments that impact both his personal life and those around him.
The project marks a collaboration between Vels Film International and Think Studios, with Dr. Ishari K. Ganesh backing the production. The film's technical crew includes music composer G. V. Prakash Kumar, cinematographer Theni Eswar, and editor Sreejith Sarang.
As the film enters Day 2 (Friday), its performance over the day will be closely watched to assess whether it can build on its opening figures. Box office trends over the next few days are expected to provide a clearer picture of its overall theatrical run.
