Patriot Box Office Collection Day 1: Mohanlal & Mammootty's Film Sees Good Start; Did It Beat L2 Empuraan?

Patriot Box Office Collection Day 1: Mohanlal and Mammootty left their respective massive fan following over the moon this year with their recent release and there are no second thoughts about it. We are talking about Patriot which is an action thriller and one of the most anticipated releases of 2026. Written, co-edited, and directed by Mahesh Narayanan, Patriot also features Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, Nayanthara, Revathi, Darshana Rajendran, and Rajiv Menon in the lead.

Interestingly, Patriot marks Mohanlal and Mammootty's grand reunion after almost two decades. They were last seen together in the 2008 release Twenty:20. To note, Patriot also marks Mohanlal and Mammootty's first release of 2026 respectively. Needless to say, Patriot has managed to create a massive buzz in the town and it did manage to open to rave reviews from the audience and critics. Needless to say, there have been endless speculations about how the movie opened at the box office.

According to a report published in Sacnilk, Patriot made a collection of Rs 9.8cr on day 1 in India. Interestingly, Patriot emerged as the highest Malayalam opener of 2026 so far.

Patriot Fails To Beat L2: Empuraan On Day 1

To note, as Patriot has been witnessing frequent comparisons with L2: Empuraan, the action thriller has failed to beat the latter on the opening day. For the uninitiated, L2E has minted Rs 21cr on its day 1 of release including Rs 18.60cr in Malayalam, Rs 1.15cr in Telugu.

Meanwhile, talking about Patriot, Mammootty, during a press meet stated, "This film is made for Malayalis. While we hope it may eventually find an audience outside Kerala, the primary goal was to cater to the people of Kerala, whose cinematic tastes have evolved significantly over the years. This is not a pan-India film... Patriot will be a game-changer. It will set a new standard, and hopefully, open the doors for more big-budget films in Malayalam cinema".
