Few careers define decades the way Mammootty's does, and Kochi saw that legacy grow even stronger at the 70th Filmfare Awards South with Kerala Tourism. Held on 21st February 2026 at the Adlux International Convention Centre, the landmark edition honoured the best of talents across Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada cinema in a grand celebration of South Indian storytelling.

Among the night's biggest triumphs was Mammootty, who won the award for Best Actor In A Leading Role (Male) - Malayalam for his performance in the critically acclaimed film, Bramayugam. This victory marked the 16th Filmfare Award for the legend and made him the only actor to have won Best Actor honours across five different decades, spanning the 1980s to the 2020s.
Accepting the honour, Mammootty took a heartfelt trip down memory lane. "I never imagined I would win a Filmfare Award. I have been a fan of the magazine since childhood," he shared, before adding with a smile, "I think the Black Lady is in love with me." Speaking about his craft, he said, "As an actor, I want to improve a lot. My dreams are my movies, and I promise I will continue to work hard and deliver good performances." He also acknowledged that Bramayugam was made by a small, committed team, underlining that every recognition belongs to the collective effort behind the film.
In a rare and generous gesture, Mammootty invited fellow nominees Asif Ali and Basil Joseph onto the stage and shared the spotlight with them. The trio posed together holding the Black Lady, turning the moment into a celebration of Malayalam cinema as a whole. The audience rose in applause, witnessing a legend honour not just his own journey, but the spirit of his peers as well.
