True Stories, Powerful Cinema: What to Watch on Discovery Movieverse
Warner Bros. Discovery is bringing a curated lineup of films inspired by real events to audiences across India with the launch of Discovery Movieverse, a special campaign that brings together critically acclaimed titles grounded in powerful true stories. Premiering on April 25, the films will air every Saturday and Sunday at 1 PM on Discovery Channel, with two premieres every weekend offering viewers a consistent and immersive experience. Over the course of the initiative, 17 films will be showcased, dubbed in seven languages to ensure wide accessibility, making Discovery Movieverse a truly pan-India offering that brings globally celebrated, real-life stories closer to home.
Some stories are written to entertain. Others unfold in real life, with stakes so high, they don't need embellishment.

There is something uniquely compelling about a story that actually happened, one where the tension was real, the stakes were not written by a screenwriter, and the people on screen were ordinary human beings navigating circumstances that most of us will never face. Discovery Movieverse brings that kind of cinema to your weekend, drawing from Warner Bros. Discovery's rich global film library to present a slate of films that are not just entertaining but genuinely extraordinary in what they ask of their audiences. These are stories of courage under pressure, of ambition that cuts both ways, of individuals who found themselves at the centre of moments that changed history, and of the quiet, unglamorous endurance it sometimes takes just to survive.
Here's the lineup:
1. Moneyball
Directed by Bennett Miller and led by Brad Pitt, Moneyball turns a baseball story into a compelling narrative about disruption and belief. When Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane is forced to rebuild his team on a tight budget, he partners with a young analyst to challenge decades of conventional wisdom using data. Also starring Jonah Hill, the film is as much about numbers as it is about conviction, showing how innovation often begins with going against the grain.
2. The Social Network (2010)
Directed by David Fincher and written by Aaron Sorkin, this sharp, dialogue-driven film chronicles the rise of Facebook and the chaos behind its creation. Jesse Eisenberg stars as Mark Zuckerberg, capturing the intensity and isolation of a young innovator navigating lawsuits, betrayals, and explosive growth. With standout performances from Andrew Garfield and Justin Timberlake, the film explores ambition, ego, and the human cost of building something that changes the world.
3. Captain Phillips
Based on the real-life hijacking of the MV Maersk Alabama, this film is a masterclass in tension and restraint. What begins as a routine cargo journey turns into a terrifying standoff between an unarmed captain and a group of Somali pirates. As the situation escalates, the film captures not just the external danger, but the psychological toll of survival, power dynamics, and split-second decision-making under extreme pressure.
4. Erin Brockovich
At its heart, this is a story about persistence in the face of overwhelming odds. Erin Brockovich, a single mother with no formal legal training, stumbles upon a case that reveals a corporation's role in contaminating a town's water supply. What follows is a relentless pursuit of justice that challenges authority, exposes truth, and proves that determination and instinct can be just as powerful as expertise.
5. Gridiron Gang
5. Rescue Dawn
Beyond these five titles, Discovery Movieverse brings an equally remarkable slate to your weekends, including the wartime drama of Hijack 1971, the spiritual resilience at the heart of Father Stu, the wildfire heroism of Only the Brave, the retail investor uprising of Dumb Money, the dangerous double life chronicled in Donnie Brasco, the warrior defiance of The Woman King, and the jungle survival of Rescue Dawn. All of them are true, all of them are extraordinary, and all of them air on Discovery Channel every Saturday and Sunday at 1 PM starting April 25.
