Michelle Pfeiffer Praises Her Character Claire’s Resilience In Oh What Fun: Moms Are The Unsung Heroes

A Prime Video holiday comedy centered on Claire Clauster, a devoted organiser who seeks recognition and personal growth. As her carefully laid plans collide with family dynamics, she embarks on a journey of self discovery, supported by Michelle Pfeiffer and an ensemble cast.

Prime Video is adding a new holiday crowd-pleaser to its line-up with Oh. What. Fun., a comedy about family, expectations and self-worth. Michelle Pfeiffer leads the film as Claire Clauster, a devoted organiser of festive traditions. The movie is directed by Michael Showalter and is now streaming exclusively for Prime Video viewers.

The story follows Claire, a holiday enthusiast whose careful plans rarely receive proper attention from family. After feeling ignored once again, Claire decides to change course. The choice sets off a chain of events that reshapes her celebrations. The film explores how one parent’s quiet frustrations grow into a bold search for recognition.

Oh. What. Fun. Prime Video holiday movie with Michelle Pfeiffer

Pfeiffer said the role instantly felt personal. "When I read the script, I immediately connected with Claire because she represents so many moms who are the unsung heroes of their families, especially during the holidays. She's this incredibly capable person who makes everything look effortless. But inside, she's yearning to be seen and appreciated. And what I really loved is that this isn't just another holiday movie. It's really a story about self-discovery and finding your voice all wrapped up in this wonderful comedy," Pfeiffer adds.

Director Michael Showalter explained why Pfeiffer was always central to the project and why Claire anchors the narrative. "Michelle is one of the great actresses of all time," Showalter says. "She is the central storyline, the anchor of the movie and, really, of her family. Claire has been preparing for this holiday for months and really looks forward to her kids coming home. She also hopes they will act on the hints she has been dropping to submit her for the Holiday Mom contest sponsored by her favorite daytime talk show, "The Zazzy Tims Show." With their busy lives and loving but complicated relationships with each other and their mom, of course, they do nothing. And this sets in motion the central plot of the movie, which is that she goes off on her own and takes matters into her own hands."

Oh. What. Fun. Prime Video holiday movie cast and story

Showalter and the filmmaking team selected Pfeiffer as their first choice for Claire. Showalter felt Pfeiffer’s screen presence and warmth matched the character’s mix of efficiency, humour and vulnerability. The film frames Claire as a parent who usually holds things together. This time, Claire steps aside from routine expectations and chooses personal growth.

Oh. What. Fun. presents Claire’s decision against a backdrop of festive bustle and tangled relationships. Her children’s failure to support the Holiday Mom contest entry becomes a turning point. That moment pushes Claire away from the usual family script. The narrative tracks how Claire’s solo steps challenge long-set family habits while keeping the tone light.

Beyond Pfeiffer’s performance, the Prime Video film includes an ensemble cast. Felicity Jones, Chloë Grace Moretz and Denis Leary appear alongside Pfeiffer, rounding out Claire’s world of relatives and connections. Together, the cast supports a holiday story that blends comedy with reflection, following a mother who finally places personal needs on her own seasonal list.
