Mozez Singh & Guneet Monga On Zubaan And Vicky Kaushal’s Beginnings: Music Lives Forever

In a free-flowing, deeply personal conversation, filmmaker Mozez Singh and Oscar-winning producer Guneet Monga revisited the creative pulse behind Zubaan, a film that not only marked a significant moment in cinema but also became an early milestone in the journey of Vicky Kaushal. The duo, who also collaborated on award winning documentary Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous, widely admired for its raw honesty and emotionally layered storytelling, offering audiences an intimate look into the life of one of India's biggest music icons. The documentary struck a chord for the way it balanced fame, vulnerability, and resilience with powerful cinematic storytelling.

Guneet reflected on their collaboration with warmth, adding, "I still remember Zubaan so vividly. Mozez wrote it, directed it, we produced it together. And technically, it was Vicky's first film. I've also produced Masaan, so in a way, I've been part of both his beginnings. That's something really special."

As the conversation turned to the film's music, the energy shifted, almost as if both were transported back to the moment of its creation. "But Zubaan's song Music Is My Art," Guneet said, "just the idea of blending hip-hop, disco, fusion, and Indian classical textures... it was electric. And the lyrics by Surjit Patar, I don't think he had ever written for a Hindi film before?"
"No, never. It was such an honour," Mozez responded.

Guneet continued, clearly moved and admiring Mozez, "But it's all you. It's your hunger, how you brought Ashu and Surjit Patar into the same room and created something like that. I still get goosebumps thinking about Zubaan's music." Mozez paused, then added with quiet conviction, "It's a beautiful album. Because, music lives forever."

As the conversation drew to a close, what lingered wasn't just nostalgia, but a deep respect for the instinct and intent behind the music. With Zubaan, Mozez Singh didn't just tell a story, he created a sonic identity that continues to resonate far beyond the film itself.

Up next, after leaving a lasting impact with Human and Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous, all eyes are now on what he creates next.

During the conversation , Mozez also revealed that he is currently working on a new and very dynamic script, his next feature. It is a music based action adventure, full of thrills and madness .
