Dimple Saikia s Short Film The Expiry Date

Written by and starring Dimple Saikia, The Expiry Date is directed by art director-filmmaker Binay Sarkar, known for his work in acclaimed Bollywood films like Andhadhun and Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga. Speaking about his vision for the film, Binay Sarkar shared, "The vision of the film primarily comes from my brother, Dimple, who wrote the story. As a director, my responsibility was to translate his writing into a visual and emotional experience. I wanted to stay true to the essence of what he created and present it in a way that feels authentic and relatable to the audience. My vision was really about doing justice to the story and bringing its emotions to life on screen."

In The Expiry Date, Dimple essays the lead role of Sam, a character he feels deeply connected to.

Talking about his role, Dimple said, "I am playing the main protagonist, Sam, and somehow the character is around 30-40% similar to me in real life. The way Sam thinks and behaves is very close to who I am personally. So, to be honest, playing Sam was not very difficult for me because I could naturally feel and understand the character very easily."

He further added, "I always wanted to write, but somehow I would stop midway and never complete anything. This time, I was going through an emotionally tough phase in my life, and writing became the only thing that truly helped me heal. That's how I discovered this beautiful story, The Expiry Date. It came from a very honest and emotional place, and I think that's what makes it so special to me."

Produced by Binay Sarkar and Ankit Baraskar under Binsar Films, the short film promises an emotionally layered narrative rooted in vulnerability, healing, and human connection.
