Dharmendra Prayer Meet: Hema Malini Gets Emotional, Stars Pay Tribute - Kangana Ranaut, Amit Shah Attend

A prayer meet held at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre in Delhi brought together Dharmendra’s family, senior politicians and film personalities to honour the veteran actor. Led by Hema Malini, the gathering featured emotional tributes, reflections on his career and public expressions of respect from peers across politics and cinema.

Family members, political leaders and film personalities gathered at Delhi's Dr Ambedkar International Centre on 11 December for a prayer meet in memory of veteran actor Dharmendra. The condolence gathering, organised by Hema Malini with daughters Esha Deol and Ahana Deol, reportedly ran between 4 pm and 5 pm.

The meet drew several senior political figures, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Railways and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Actor and Lok Sabha Member Ravi Kishan and actress Kangana Ranaut also attended and offered respects.

While addressing the gathering, Hema Malini revisited the early years with Dharmendra, recalling how their screen partnership turned into a lifelong bond. She said, "Jis shaks ke sath maine kayi filmon mein pyar ka abhinaya kiya, wahi mere jivan saathi ban gaye." She then reflected on their shared strength, adding, "Hamara pyaar sacha tha to ham kisi bhi paristhiti ka saamna karne ki himmat thi..."

Speaking about family life, Hema Malini described Dharmendra as a committed husband and an affectionate father to Esha Deol and Ahana Deol. As emotions rose, Hema Malini broke down while welcoming guests, saying, "Aaj ki is prarthana sabha mein aap sab ka swagat karte hue, main bahut hi bhavuk ho rahi hoon. Maine kabhi nahi socha tha ki meri zindagi mein aisa ek pal aayega, jab mujhe bhi yeh shok sabha rakhni padegi, woh bhi mere Dharam ji ke liye (sic)." Esha Deol and Ahana Deol stood behind, offering support throughout.

Kangana Ranaut was seen greeting Hema Malini respectfully and touched Hema Malini's feet as a sign of reverence. Family support at the venue also included Hema Malini's son-in-law Vaibhav Vohra and Esha Deol's ex-husband Bharat Takhtani, who joined relatives and guests during the solemn ceremony in Janpath.

Some attendees recalled personal interactions with Dharmendra during the gathering. Ravi Kishan remembered Dharam ji and said, "Aaj ki is prarthana sabha mein aap sab ka swagat karte hue, main bahut hi bhavuk ho rahi hoon. Maine kabhi nahi socha tha ki meri zindagi mein aisa ek pal aayega, jab mujhe bhi yeh shok sabha rakhni padegi, woh bhi mere Dharam ji ke liye (sic)." Amit Shah also shared memories and mentioned a phone call from Dharmendra when Hema Malini became an MP, and said, "Aaj ki is prarthana sabha mein aap sab ka swagat karte hue, main bahut hi bhavuk ho rahi hoon. Maine kabhi nahi socha tha ki meri zindagi mein aisa ek pal aayega, jab mujhe bhi yeh shok sabha rakhni padegi, woh bhi mere Dharam ji ke liye (sic)." The repeated words underlined the shared grief in the hall.
