Apart from Amitabh and Farhan, the thing which really shined was the script of the movie! Written by producer Vinod Chopra and Abhijat Joshi, the script of Wazir really stands out and their original story is exactly what the Bollywood industry needs! Thanks to them, Hindi Film industry is off to a good start this 2016 with their brilliant plot! Director Bejoy has kept everything crisp, thereby not elaborating too much on the characters and focusing more on the twists and turns that you least expected! All in all, Wazir doesn't give you much time to think with its intelligent script and face paced story-line! It keeps you on the edge of your seats, keeping you entertained with this emotional thriller. Verdict: Wazir is a good movie and a great one time watch!

Wazir is a smart movie - which could have been way smarter. Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) officer Daanish Ali (Farhan) loses his daughter while chasing terrorists. His anguished wife Roohana (Aditi) blames Daanish, who's about to kill himself in guilt-laden grief. Suddenly, he meets wheelchair-bound Pandit Omkar Nath Dhar (Amitabh), who teaches Daanish about chess, life, love - and revenge. Panditji's own tragic tale leads Daanish to investigate Welfare Minister Qureishi (Manav) - and then chase him furiously when brutal assassin Wazir (Neil) attacks Pandit Dhar.

If first impressions are the lasting impressions, then Bejoy Nambiar’s Wazir gets it right from the outset. Farhan’s Danish is an intriguing bundle of contradictions: nervous yet valorous, rebellious yet defeated by a tragedy that defines his life for the entire film. It’s what Varun Dhawan went though in Sriram Raghavan’s Badlapur but only far more devastating in its ramifications. Even as we try to understand the workings of Danish’s mind, the script is always ahead of us and also introduces us to the spirited paraplegic Pandit Omkarnath Dhar (Amitabh Bachchan). From his first moment on screen, he takes possession of his character as only he can. We first see him surrounded with intelligent little children who he teaches how to play chess. Never mind, better a film that moves away quickly rather than one that overstays its welcome. This looks like a terrific year ahead for Bollywood. Wazir is a solid start. A gripping thriller anchored by Bachchan and Akhtar’s compelling compatibility. Not to be missed.

Danish Ali ( Farhan Akhtar) is an ATS cop who is grieving his daughter Noorie’s death after she gets shot in a gun-fire exchange between him and some terrorists. Burdened with the guilt, Danish even contemplates suicide. His wife Ruhana (Aditi Rao Hydari) too blames him for losing their daughter and distances herself from him. Thanks to his reckless act as a father as well as a cop, Danish is suspended for a span. In the meanwhile, he meets an interesting personality, former chess master Omkarnath/Panditji ( Amitabh Bachchan). He is a wheel-chair bound Chess champ who has lost the game of his life. Panditji’s wife is killed in an accident where he loses his legs but his fate gives him a bigger jerk when his young daughter Nina dies a mysterious death. Farhan Akhtar seems to growing as an actor with each film. As Danish, he does a brilliant job. I peculiarly loved the way we see him going from being broken down and suicidal to being so driven by friendship that he can even kill for it. Akhtar delivers a nuanced performance. Amitabh Bachchan as Pandit Omkarnath does a fine job. His camaraderie with Farhan looks quite natural and they make up for some of the best scenes in the film. Also just the way he says, Khel Khel Mein is superb. Wazir is a missed opportunity. It is a story that could have been gripping but suffers from a bad treatment, thus leaving you disappointed. Farhan and Big B do their best to save this botched up plot but they can’t. So basically, it’s like the audiences will end up saying Check Mate to the makers.
